If you knew her, Gwen is gone. Transferred.
( that seems to be pretty much all he has to say on the matter, but what he isn't saying is clearly obvious on his face. he's upset, eyes red and a little dark, like maybe he hasn't been sleeping well. he hasn't been.
he knows she's not dead, and yet, considering that he might never see her again, it sort of feels like it. how long will he spend mourning Gwen Stacy? forever, probably.
he wishes he could point out Spider-Woman is gone, too. she'd made connections as both. but he can't — those who miss the masked version will have to figure out she's gone on their own. )
If there's anybody that cares, I could use some help with our little dudes. They're close to hatching, I think. It's better if someone is there to meet them when they do. ( he's talking about the squidges, and the observant will notice that's where he is — hanging out near the squidge park. he's been here a lot lately if one can find him at all. if you can't, well, he's probably somewhere on top of the castle where you're not likely to get to him. )

( he's been hanging near the squidges pretty religiously the past few days, so even if she takes awhile chances are good he'll still be there. )
==> action
[ True to her word, she is there soon. In fact, it seems like she might have run. It's nothing personal, she's just exciting by most things, but new things especially. And taking care of weird egg babies is definitely a new thing entirely. She's never even seen a troll egg up close and in person...
When she gets there, she spots him almost immediately, but takes a moment to look around in amazement before she makes her way over. She proffers a hand in what she presumes is customary human fashion. ]
Hello! I'm Feferi! I am here to help?
no subject
Hey. I'm Peter. And uh, thanks for coming. ( he nods behind him, at a small set-up he's created with warm lamps to keep the eggs at a proper temperature. they don't seem to interesting at first glance, but that's only because most people don't have spider-senses and can't hear that they're starting to move around and get more lively. ) You weren't here on Zeta-12, right?
no subject
[ Don't mind her, just marveling at the heat lamps and the little incubator. They're interesting to her, at least, only because she's never seen an egg up close that didn't contain something further down her food chain... ]
No, this last mission was my first one. Zeta-12 was the last one though, right? With the eggs? I heard about them!

We arrived and had to help them hatch and get them to the spring where they evolved. It was a lot of work, but it was nice knowing for sure we really succeeded. ( sometimes their missions came in shades of gray. not everyone would agree that they were "successful" in Perdition's Rest. Nalawi either, for that matter. )

[ It speaks to her.
She doesn't even look up from the eggs, so enthralled with them. They're so strange looking, and has so many questions... but first things first. ]
So what do you need me to do?
no subject
( compared to Nalawi and Perditions Rest, Zeta-12 had been a fairly peaceful mission. he hadn't slept well thanks to the constant squidge-sitting, but no worse than a new parent might. and he'd only had to deal with it for a few weeks, comparatively. )
Depends on what you're up for. Holding them is a good start, or telling them stories. Singing. Talking to them, even. All of it registers, somehow, helps them hatch sooner.
no subject
I can really hold one? Can I hold one right now...?
no subject
Yeah, sure. ( he lifts one from its cozy spot under the warmer and offers it to her. ) They're pretty sturdy but I do suggest not dropping it.
no subject
Hello there little egg! Are you going to hatch soon? I hope you do! I would like very much to meet you, before we leave on our next mission!
[ And then she looks up again. ]
Do you think they will let me name one?
no subject
it's nice to hear her interact with the egg so easily. he knows it can be a bit embarrassing for some. ) Sure, I think so. There's going to be plenty of them, and especially if one imprints on you, I'd think you'd be the best option for naming it.
no subject
[ Nobody said she was particularly creative, but she looks at the egg so affectionately and it just feels right. ]
What do you think, would you like to be called Fish? --do they talk at all, when they hatch?
no subject
as for talking... ) They have their own sort of language, kinda like... Hums, and other sounds. They didn't learn english but they would mimic human conversation. Maybe if we'd had more time with them, they could have learned... hard to say.
( he realizes a beat late how many words that was, considering he could have answered with a simple, "No." ) They can still communicate without language, though, trust me.
no subject
[ It's really all she can think to say, because even if that's a lot of words for a 'no', she takes it all in with a smile. ]
Can I stay here with the egg for a while?
no subject
( he nods, even with a ghost of a smile. she seems so content, he wouldn't ask her to stop, not when she's providing the egg what it needs right now especially. )
I'll be around, if you need me.
( but, the egg seems in capable hands. he's not afraid to step away and back to his own work, leaving her in the company of the egg. )
