It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

Unless someone wants to learn how to fold an origami crane, or the easiest way of using wood oil on the pews at the church, I don't think I've got much to offer for helping people learn.

But if it's okay to say when there are things we want to learn, then I'd like to learn more about cooking, for one.

[ trusting that she's learning hand to hand under Master Anakin, and has a nebulous future date to learn some camping skills and fire making skills from Gaius-san, and Japanese with Haise... what a life. (Some of these skills may be more relevant than others.) ]

Driving or riding seems like it could be important too.
onethousen: (determined | difficult isn't impossible)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-10-17 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Then I'd like to learn how to read maps, too. I feel like that would be useful almost anywhere we go.

Are you cooking all your own meals right now, Haise-san?
onethousen: (huh | why are you pushing me???)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-10-17 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ Look, if she really knew, Haise... if she knew... then it'd be impossible for him to be relying on the local establishments. Unless the Qorral are somehow compatible to his biology.

As it is, she's very impressed at his meticulous planning. Oops.

You're an efficient packer. I don't think I even thought about doing something like that. Are you always this well planned out?

Even if they're metal, they still move like they're born from flesh and bone, I think. Or that's what it looks like. I'd be really grateful to learn. I'm pretty good at riding dragons! Or, um, not falling off them at least.

riding dragons? that's quite impressive. in my world dragons were best admired by afar.

I'd be happy to show you what I know. I've spent some time with these metallic horses. they're not so different from the ones back in Oska, I think the lessons would translate.
onethousen: (smile | figuring things out)

[personal profile] onethousen 2016-10-19 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
It was mostly with their permission. You shouldn't try without them deciding it's something they want to do, and they invite you along.

Really? So learning to ride here, I could really learn how to ride and I'd be able to ride there, too?

We can definitely do that. I learned to cook for myself with my mother when I was younger. Lots of simple things that don't take too much time, since time was always pretty short.

[He omits the 'and I needed it when I was on my own', because that's definitely not a conversation he wants to have with Chihiro.]

Tell you what. Maybe you can help me make something easy for the Reverend one of these days. It'll be a nice way to thank him and to get some practice in.
