It's occurred to me that since our membership shifts and our backgrounds vary so much, it might be good to compare what we're capable of. More to the point, I was thinking we might be able to help each other pick up relevant skills, if not hone the ones we already have.

If people are looking to train or think they could help others, why don't we discuss that here? I know at least a few of us don't have backgrounds in combat, for example. On our first day here I met someone who wasn't familiar with firearms but might get good use out of the skill, for another.

In my case, I have experience training others and can help with hand-to-hand combat. I can work with people ranging from average human strength to well above it. I've got some skill with swords and knives, but I wouldn't compare that to someone who specializes in them, and that's something I'd like to work on. In terms of non-combative skills, if someone wants to work on something like cooking, I'm reasonably helpful there.

Let's see how we can help each other improve.

[now this is something he can probably do- something in between working on his projects. he needs the help from people who have more experience with ALASTAIR and know how to get resources he's still working on. fair trade and doing more than just keeping to himself, because he wants to shoulder the burdens of the world, would be beneficial.]

I have some experience in training others, though I will say my training methods aren't for the faint of heart.

More importantly, I'm a scientist, and I'm aware many of us have our own projects we're all working on. I've spoken to a few likeminded individuals, and it does seem we could benefit working together and sharing our knowledge.

Not the point. It's the principle of the thing... like not sending a kid off to get gnawed to death by giant bugs.

I had more faith in your self-preservation instincts than that! It was an excellent learning experience about not getting in over your head.

I don't think that counts as "character building". More like "stupid". Or "reckless".

Is that the kind of thing people are going to be expecting from your training?

If they insist on being reckless and stupid, then I'm going to allow it to prove a point. The training comes once they realize they aren't capable of handling what they believe they can.

It's easier if people understand their limitations by experiencing them firsthand.

Urahara-san, I think you've worked with some very stubborn people.

But I think you're also right, about the learning your limitations by experiencing them. It makes them more real, in a way.

I don't hold back anything. You either take the lessons seriously or get hurt.

Oh goodness no. I've never actually had a student die.

okay, but seriously — i'm suspecting you're some kind of ability user, like, magic, powers, something, otherwise this doesn't really make sense. so what is it? you drank water from a special well and it turned you superhuman? you've got special ninja powers? you're actually Merlin?

I'm not. It was just an interesting guess.

I don't want to sound full of myself. It's not as if we're not surrounded by incredibly powerful people. I assure you I'm nothing special.

but okay dude, sure. most of the people WITH some kind of powers aren't shy about telling what they have, i mean, look at all the other responses... i'm just saying, this whole modesty thing is not really sitting well with me.

Consider it a precaution just in case we ever stop being useful to them.

i mean, if i had any trump cards to keep hidden i would, i don't trust them as far as i can throw them and that's not very far at all
