If you knew her, Gwen is gone. Transferred.
( that seems to be pretty much all he has to say on the matter, but what he isn't saying is clearly obvious on his face. he's upset, eyes red and a little dark, like maybe he hasn't been sleeping well. he hasn't been.
he knows she's not dead, and yet, considering that he might never see her again, it sort of feels like it. how long will he spend mourning Gwen Stacy? forever, probably.
he wishes he could point out Spider-Woman is gone, too. she'd made connections as both. but he can't — those who miss the masked version will have to figure out she's gone on their own. )
If there's anybody that cares, I could use some help with our little dudes. They're close to hatching, I think. It's better if someone is there to meet them when they do. ( he's talking about the squidges, and the observant will notice that's where he is — hanging out near the squidge park. he's been here a lot lately if one can find him at all. if you can't, well, he's probably somewhere on top of the castle where you're not likely to get to him. )

[No more than reading whatever he comes across might give him, smatterings of potentially useless information on the subject]
You'd think so. I'm surprised we aren't better equipped at times, especially since ALASTAIR has a better grasp of the conditions we're going into than we often do.
no subject
no kidding. i've started to try and predict what i'll need on a mission, and even then there's only so much you can prepare when we can only take so much with us
no subject
On top of that, sometimes resources we find ourselves needing simply aren't available. Maybe it's worth mentioning, but I still don't have much sense of the command structure around here.
no subject
doesn't feel like there is one. or maybe it's just me. even senior teams don't have too much authority, kinda weird
no subject
A decentralized system then... I wonder if that's really the right way to get things done.
no subject
( no he's totally not bitter about the intense Magic Talks that go on around here, no, not at all!!!! )
doesn't seem to be. just considering our half-baked "successes" wrt our missions. or maybe thats just me
no subject
[Here, let him lighten this up for you Pete]
I've had a few people try to convince me that my world's got magic and I've just never seen any evidence of it for nebulous reasons. It's a little difficult to argue a point for which there's no basis to start with.
But I agree the current lack of infrastructure seems problematic. The organization I belong to back home is far more organized, and it runs more smoothly...and we've just got Tokyo to concern ourselves with, compared to the stakes set here.
no subject
I've heard the same and maybe it's just that different worlds contain different components... but I think everything has an explanation and I'm not content saying it's magic and calling it a day. science has never let me down before — we just might not have the tools and insight to understand just yet
what sort of organization do you work for?
( sounds like something a cop would say, maybe, and surprisingly for a vigilante, Peter doesn't mind members of law enforcement. he just thinks they are bound by red tape he can duck under is all. )
no subject
[Especially when those abilities aren't native to them. Maybe they're able to tap into some kind of energy or resource, or something along those lines... But it seems too simplistic to just think it's willpower focused into whatever they're doing and that's the end of it]
I'm part of a paramilitary organization. We work alongside local authorities, but our jurisdiction is focuses exclusively on a predatory species that preys on humans. Their diets are very limited, due to their biology.
no subject
huh. sounds intense. ( he can't say he's heard of anything like that in his own world, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Peter can admit he doesn't know everything. ) but if it resembles military i can imagine the lack of organization would be pretty jarring
no subject
[Apropos of nothing that he can discern, no less. He'd very much like to make some sense of that]
Jarring is a good word for it. I was pretty stunned that an organization working on this scale doesn't have more infrastructure. We have far more in place, and the branch I belong to only handles Tokyo.

i'm 19 and i am used to more structure living in my aunts suburban house, yk? not sure why ALASTAIR doesn't have more. we're dealing with fragile circumstances, sometimes i think we'd be better served if we had more direction.
then again, i don't see it happening.
no subject
[Nineteen...members of his squad back home are about that age]
They don't seem to see the lack of structure as a problem, for some reason... But I wish they'd reconsider that. We'd get better results if it were at least comparable to a suburban household.
no subject
i agree. especially if it's aunt may's household, because she does not mess around.
i think we'd be less aimless. more coordinated. all good things when the stakes are so high

[There's a delay during which he mentally fumbles with how to think a filter in place. Sometimes, he misses computers.
But he manages, he thinks. Hopefully.
Reluctant as he is to skirt this kind of issue, it's likely relevant when considering the prospect of modifications allowing new abilities to be used]
It wouldn't be the first time I was changed without my consent, if we're being candid here.
This, however, doesn't seem to come with the same physical changes that did.
no subject
( he can't say that he knows the feeling, he doesn't trust himself (or anyone else) enough to lead on to his own mutations. fact of the matter, though, he gets being changed without asking for it to happen.
still, the mention of physical changes piques his interest more than he'd like to admit. )
there were the first time? what kind of changes? do you mind my asking that?
& what changes are you experiencing now? how long ago did they happen?
no subject
[Much less how someone like him could gain the ability to start with. ALASTAIR certainly has means at their disposal, but what would make this possible?]
The first time was back home. Although I don't recall it, you could say I was used in an experiment. Details beyond that would likely be burdensome.
[Which is his indirect manner of attempting to duck the question]
no subject
burdensome to you, anyway. but i'll take the point.
( not indirect enough, clearly... though, when Peter is so trained in keeping his own secrets, it's possible that he's just too good at spotting them in others. he's not going to push someone that doesn't want to talk, though. at least there's that. )
no subject
I appreciate it, and I do think it's a burden on others.
[Perhaps himself too, in a different way. But he already lives with the knowledge of what he is. It's worse visiting that upon others]
no subject
yeah, I get it. I'm one of those weird people that think solving algebraic equations is kinda fun, but when you don't know any of the variables you're never gonna get anywhere, you know?
( he can't help if he doesn't know what is going on. still, it isn't his right to know anything, so he'll back off from there. )
no subject
That's true. Though you could say even back home, I'm something of a variable, so even I don't understand it well enough.
[That much he thinks he can yield without making anyone uncomfortable sleeping under the same roof as him, at least]
no subject
( life, or being spider-man... whatever you wanna call it... )
all the same, you probably know better than anyone else if you're the one that's living it. if you feel like offering more information, let me know.
no subject
[Granted he is good at it, but he's ill-fitted to it all the same]
But all do that. [If such a time comes that he thinks it'd be at all useful to others, at any rate. In the meantime...] Thank you for your understanding.
