I have discovered some information of importance that may aid us going forward.

As it turns out, our terrorists are not affiliated with the colors they wear. I was able to determine that they acted alone, without the instruction of the Empress of the Crashing Wave.

I believe an unknown third party may be attempting to escalate tension in order to incite civil war between the clans.

Undetermined. They were not very interested in anything beyond their mission. But I am not convinced they were of the Sea Clan at all.

They harbor intense hatred for Empress Nama, and they were not commanded by Empress Youmi. They either managed to infiltrate the city while wearing enemy colors, or they were already here.

Undetermined. Whomever they were, they were smart enough to draw ire to the Sea Clan, rather than attack under their own banner.

[ Things always have to be more complicated than they seem. Funnily enough it doesn't actually occur to her to ask how he got the information. He got it. That's enough. ]

Any ideas on where to start looking for this third party?

Not as of yet. They could be zealots of the Mountain Clan, or even the Sea Clan. I find the latter to be unlikely, as I am not certain how they would have snuck into the festival with their own colors.

They could also be people of the Flowerlands, looking to capitalize on the conflict under the banner of neutrality.

[ he. probably shouldn't sound so triumphant about information that is technically Very Bad News, but here we go. ]

It totally made no sense at all, so it's good we have confirmation. You couldn't get any more clues as to who they were? I mean, they could have been people from this land, trying to paint the other empire in an even worse light.

No. They were too single minded, difficult to navigate, even for someone as practiced as myself. Their hatred for Empress Nama was strong.

However, I find it unlikely that anyone from the sea would have been able to sneak inside undetected, which leaves us with the Flowerlands, and the Mountain Clan.

No. We will need to gauge the political climate in Empress Youmi's lands to make a proper judgment I think.

What would the third party benefit from with a civil war?

If the two empires destroy one another, they will rise in their place. Or, if one defeats the other, they will net reaources. Without loyalty to one Empress or the other, they do not stand to lose much at all.

Do we even know if they're even from this place? If it was easy enough for like fifty of us to pop up here from wherever's-ville, who's to say these other people didn't just mosey on in too?

We do not. However, given their investment in Empress Nama and her legitimacy, I would venture to guess that they are indeed native.

A great many things, should one of the Empires fall. It also creates a window of opportunity to dethrone the current Empress they despise in the chaos of war.

There was no interrogation.
It would have drawn suspicion, hence the minimal information we have at our disposal.
She confessed, and was taken by a guard. Presumably to serve out her sentence as a criminal.

Masks are masks. There stands just as much chance that they were not of the Sea Clan at all, but upstarts from within.
